Not Quite Broken Arbor Heights edition by Diana DeRicci Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
My heart felt like it shattered when the story began with Dex's horrific ordeal. But, Brian came in and became the support that Dex needed. This was a loving story of how a young man tragically hurt overcame that and how Brian fell in love with Dex. Loved this story!
I really found myself loving Not Quite Broken, by author Diana DeRicci. The journey for Dex has been a really difficult one. He has experienced things that most men would never recover from. He thinks when we first meet him that he isn’t strong enough to overcome things. However he has a man in his life who believes in him, maybe even more than Dex believes in himself right now, enter in Brian. Brian is older than Dex and he knows Dex can overcome this. He just needs someone like himself to be patient, kind, and loving. Lucky for Dex, Brian is that and more.
What I particular loved about this book is the arc of the story. I really felt by the time Dex gets into a new relationship he is ready for that experience. Sometimes in a story like Dex’s that can feel rushed but not in this case. I really love the depth of emotional connection I had to both characters. I even loved the minor characters we get to meet who help Dex overcome his fears. This is my first book in the Arbor Heights series. Though this is number 8 I wasn’t lost at all. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a great story with strong emotional ties, you won’t be disappointed. I know this is a story that will stick with me for a very long time to come.
Five Shooting Stars
Dex is desperately trying to find the will to live but each day becomes harder. Dex’s only salvation is his friend Brian.
Not Quite Broken is part of the Arbor Heights Series. This is an especially emotional plot dealing with an ordeal not usually associated with men by the heterosexual society. The storyline takes the reader through the pain, lost of trust and feelings of being utterly helpless. Plus the emotional shame of being unwanted by family.
Dex is a young gay man just starting to implement his independence. He had a job and an apartment, but he wanted to meet new friends. Unfortunately Dex is horribly violated by a deranged man at a dance club. The emotional part of the violence almost destroyed Dex. Dex became so mentally withdrawn only Brian could pull him back to a few normal activities.
Brian is an extremely empathetic man; at first his single desire was to help Dex in any way he could. However, the more time Brian spent with Dex, the more he desired Dex as other than a friend. Nevertheless, Brian is an honorable man; he declined to act on his yearning for intimacy with Dex until Dex approached the topic first.
Diana DeRicci’s Not Quite Broken is a realistic as well as enjoyable saga that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I mourned for Dex’s lost of wellness, but I rejoiced for the peace Dex found in friends.
